Our current team

Andrew is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in wide-field and cellular-resolution imaging. His research focuses on the mechanisms underlying cortical flexibility in fear behavior. Outside of the lab, he likes to play guitar and listen to podcasts about bad movies.

Josue is a postdoctoral scientist working at the intersection of neuroscience and machine learning. His work focuses on building computational models to better understand how brains and artificial systems process and learn from complex information. He’s especially interested in uncovering how learning and perception emerge from large-scale data and brain activity.

Lanxing received her Ph.D. from Fudan University and is now a postdoctoral researcher in the lab, studying the relationship between neural activity and behavior. Outside the lab, she enjoys watching dramas, running, and spending time with her dog. Her curiosity and positive energy make her a joy to work with.

Wu Tsai Postdoctoral Fellow

Paras is a post-doc in the Higley lab investigating synaptic physiology in vivo. His work interrogates how mechanisms of pre-synaptic glutamate release are regulated in the awake mammalian brain. Using single-synapse activity imaging, he investigates how behavioral state and neuromodulation shape glutamate release at multiple timescales.

Hao Dong is a PhD student studying large-scale cortical dynamics and their relationship to behavior in freely moving mice. Outside the lab, he enjoys reading, watching movies, snowboarding, and spending time with friends.

Jiyeon is a PhD student in the Biomedical Engineering Department. She is interested in neural circuit computation, particularly how sensory inputs are transformed into spatial representations and behavior. During her master’s studies, she conducted research on mouse 1p calcium imaging and computational modeling. Outside of lab, Jiyeon enjoys trying new random things and walking around the city.

Victoria joined the Higley Lab in June 2020 and has been there ever since, chasing questions at the intersection of visual neuroscience and engineering. She completed her undergraduate training at Stanford University, where she spent six years in the labs of Professors EJ Chichilnisky and Charles Yu developing technologies, including a next-generation bionic eye, to treat incurable blindness. When the optics are aligned, she trades breadboards for pennyboards, dotes on every Saint Bernard in town, and treats the pipe organ like her second lab bench.
